INNOVATION RESEARCH PROGRAM
Professor Joshua Gans

The innovation research program investigates a broad range of issues related to the interface between innovation policy and the economy. At the moment, it is engaging in specific research directions on the following topics: (a) the institutional structure of science and the design of policies towards intellectual property protection and grant- based funding of research and development; (b) the promotion of innovation in environmentally-friendly technologies in the face of policies to deal with climate change and (c) innovations that enhance the provision of competition-enabling information in markets.

CHINA BUSINESS PROGRAM
Associate Professor Mark Crosby

The China Business program establishes a network matching companies and researchers, to provide resarch based solutions to challenges for Australian businesses in China. These solutions will involve business input and cross-disciplinary academic collaboration. The program also runs forums and events for academics and the business sector to build ongoing linkages.

COMPETITIVE RESEARCH PROGRAM
Associate Professor Michael Ryall

The competitive strategy initiative concentrates on the formal theoretical foundations of business strategy. This includes a focus on the rapidly growing research approach that uses mathematical models to analyze issues relating to value appropriation under competition (who gets what, why and for how long -- all central questions in the practice of strategy).

The program is also working to develop a cross-disciplinary, cross-institutional network in strategy research. Partners in this endeavor include Harvard Business School, University of Toronto, and INSEAD.
