2008 Women and Management Dinner

Pera Wells, Secretary General of the World Federation of United Nations Associations, and Laura Hartman, Vice President for Academic Affairs at DePaul University in Chicago, are this year’s speakers for the Women and Management (WAM) dinner on Tuesday 5 August.

Pera WellsPera Wells is a former Australian diplomat who held posts in Ghana, the UK and the UN. She was the Director of the first Human Rights Section in the Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade and also established the first Human Rights Unit of the Commonwealth Secretariat in London, where she worked closely with the Program for the Advancement of Women. Now based in New York, she oversees an international network of over 100 United Nations Associations. She is an alumna of Melbourne Business School (Management Development Program 1989).

Laura HartmanLaura Hartman is a leading scholar in business ethics, specialising in the alleviation of global poverty through profitable corporate partnerships. A professor of Business Ethics and Legal Studies, she is also Research Director of the Institute for Business and Professional Ethics at DePaul University and holds the Gourlay Professorship of Ethics at MBS/Trinity College at the University of Melbourne (2007-2008).

The pair will be speaking on how women can lead the efforts of Corporate Social Responsibility.

Now in its 11th year, the WAM dinner is a pre-eminent forum for exploring issues relating to gender, diversity and leadership in the workplace. The event features high-calibre guest speakers and attracts over 600 guests - men and women - from corporate, government and community sectors.

The 2008 dinner will be held at Sofitel Melbourne on Tuesday 5 August.
